Linda Gillis graduated from the combined internship masters program at Hamilton Health Sciences and the University of Guelph in 1996 to become a Registered Dietitian and researcher. In the same year, she accepted a position at The Children’s Exercise and Nutrition Centre at McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton. This is a program that has been in existence since 1983 that provides an interdisciplinary treatment for overweight children and adolescents. She is also active in research publishing manuscripts on the relationship between diet, exercise and juvenile obesity, sweetened drink consumption and food away from home and obesity, nutrient inadequacy in obese youth, selective eating and iron metabolism. She is currently working on her PhD at McMaster University. She has been invited to present at conferences throughout Canada and the United States and in the House of Commons in Ottawa in 2006.
